A Fluted
Panel Volcano with a Blue Bark Mammoth Ivory and Black and White
Ebony accent, and light-yellow swirl vintage Bakelite stem with
Cumberland tenon.
This piece is complex. It is a Fluted Panel as can be seen from
the top and bottom views, however the four opposing corner edges
are not square to the top. They are pointed and finished at
different heights. Thematically these points and how they look
in relation to the inner cubic bowl suggest either a weathering
and eroding or a growing and rising up. In other words this
bowl structure may be reminiscent of either ancient architectural
ruins, or something growing like a crystal, for example.
It really
is a pleasure to look at and think over!
